I have
installed sheetmetal fasteners
according to the instructions,
but they won't show up in the
Feature Palette!?
A: Make sure the Feature Palette
knows where to look for the
files: go to Tools/Options/File
References, scroll down to Palette
Features and browse to C:\Program
Files\sheetmetal fasteners (or
your installation directory),
and click OK.

How do
I get the pre-programmed thread-callout
annotations to show up in my
drawings?
A: Go to Insert/Model Items
and check the Cosmetic Threads
box.

Why are
these parts modelled as Palette
Features, not Palette Parts?
A: If the fasteners were specified
as PARTS, each sheetmetal component
would end up as an assembly,
increasing the number of files
and adding to file management
complexity. As Features, they
can be added within SolidWorks
PARTS. Once inserted, Palette
Features are also self contained
- i.e. do not reference other
files. This adds flexibility
for modification and the files
travel easier.

Why are
the sheetmetal gauges not specified
in the relevant fasteners?
A: Some fasteners include a
code for the required sheet-thickness.
This code has bee left off for
a number of reasons: It reduces
the likelihood of incorrect
parts being specified, should
the sheetmetal gauge change
during the design process; the
number of fasteners (and hence
library size & overhead)
would increase dramatically;
we never specify the code, but
tell the supplier the sheetmetal
gauge and let them wrestle with
the codes.
